Walking is at the heart of how I work

Ever taken a walk to clear your head?  Then you already know that walking works.  Walking is so much more. The evidence in support of walking as a thinking, communication, health boosting tool is overwhelming.

We are not just minds attached to screen tapping fingers.  We are physical beings that need to move around, experience direct sunlight and connect up with our environments.

When we combine walking with coaching, something magical happens.  We start to feel open and full of possibility.  We have moving conversations.  We understand how we really feel, bond with other people and come up with great ideas.

Walking isn’t just for head clearing.  It’s an essential part of how we work and can connect with our colleagues.

Six wonders of coaching while walking

Creative thinking:

Walking has been proven to enhance thinking skills and creativity enabling us to have ideas and solve problems. This works not just while walking but after a walk too!

Natural high:

Walking for at least twenty minutes releases endorphins and makes us feel good. This positive frame of mind reduces stress and makes us receptive to stretching our thinking.

Rapport:

Walking and talking side by side (rather than face-to-face) increases trust and rapport. It breaks down hierarchies between people and enables us to feel equal, open and connected.

Exploration:

Coaching while walking enables a new way to interact with or discover an area. A spirit of discovery becomes part of the conversation.

Exercise:

Walking is a form of exercise that can be enjoyed by anyone anywhere that has over 100 positive physical and mental health effects.

Creative environment:

Being outside allows us to use the environment creatively as part of the thinking experience. We can bring in the changing weather, seasons or features of the landscape to our conversations.
